Dear Families,
Here is an outline of our field trips for this school year—some very exciting opportunities for us! We are fortunate that we have been approved for these field trips, and that the school budget is supporting the bus transportation, however, we must ask families to pay for the admission fees for each child. If this poses a hardship for your family, please let your child’s teacher know, and we will find a way to cover this. ALL children will participate in these field trips, regardless of ability to pay.
Oct. 18: “Harold and the Purple Crayon” at the Flynn Theatre in . Rumor has it that several other Crockett Johnson books will be featured in this stage presentation. We also are hoping to be able to schedule a Companion Workshop prior to this trip, which will give all of our primary students a chance to become more familiar with the action of these books. We will be reading several books before our trip to the theatre.
Cost per student is $9.50.
Dec. 2 "One Green Earth," is another Flynn Theatre production. Here's the description of this VSO presentation: Green Up Vermont celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2010, and the VSO joins the campaign to safeguard our precious environment! Veteran entertainer, educator, and Children's Music Hall of Famer Bill Shontz emcees this multimedia concert, with musical selections that reflect a reverence for the natural world, like Copland's Shaker tune ‘Tis a Gift To Be Simple, Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, and newer pieces like Green Up, One Earth, and The Hole in the Ozone. Powerful images of 's Green Up Day and Earthwatch's stunning video about environments around the world illustrate the precious resources we are called to protect.
Cost per student is $9.50
March 7 Maple sugaring at Shelburne Farms in
We will investigate the science and experience the wonders of maple sugaring by spending a day in the sugarbush. We will follow the entire sugaring process from tapping to tasting. Shelburne Farms staff will help us learn to identify and tap a maple tree,
gather sap, visit the sugarhouse, meet a sugar-maker, and experience the history of
maple sugaring.
Cost per student is $6.00
May 16 Montshire Museum in
If you've ever been to the , you will understand the excitement of this hands-on science museum for the wondering child in all of us. Physical science exhibits abound for children to explore sound, color, magnetism, force, motion, and so much more. In addition to visiting the museum, we will join a Star Lab workshop to support and enhance unit study of Earth and Sky.
Cost per child is $9.00
We will ride the school bus for all of these field trips, and the total cost per student is $34 for the year of field trip admission fees. Your child will need a cold lunch, drink in nonbreakable container and snacks on the following dates: Dec. 2, Mar. 7 and May 16.
We will need parent chaperones for March 7 and May 16. We will ask you if you'd like to join us for either of these days when the time is closer.
Please return the attached permission form and money to your child's teacher by September 20. You may make checks payable to "Moretown School Primary Unit." Thank you!
