Math homework

Dear First and Second Grade Parents,

A reminder:   Each Thursday math homework is sent home and expected to be returned on the following Monday.

However, there will NOT be math homework sent home this Thursday, January 27, 2011.  We have begun new math units, so there isn’t any homework yet.  However, I am sending home the January math update with children tomorrow (Thursday) for parent information.

I’ll let the kids know they don’t have homework tomorrow.  I’m sure they will be disappointedJ!

Hope you can get out there to enjoy the snow!  It was gorgeous cross-country skiing with first and second graders today!

Be well~

Brenda

Math Update

Dear Families,

I will be making paper copies of the January math update and sending home this Thursday with your child.   My classroom shutterfly site has it posted, but without the diagram of a math problem.  Also, one teacher mentioned that the shutterfly classroom update went into her SPAM folder, so I’ll just send hard copies home Thursday to make sure you all get it.

Sorry that I haven’t been able to add email addresses for first and second grade parents of Mrs. Orr’s class.   Shutterfly site is not cooperating, and I’m not getting much help from their tech folks—as of yet.  So, I’m afraid all of the great math photos of your children at work and in action during math lessons can’t be shared with all of you digitally—just yet.  I’ll keep trying.

Cross-country skiing

Hi~

We are going to cross-country ski tomorrow afternoon (Wed., Jan. 26) for the first time this school year.  Yippee!

According to my schedule I have Kelly Collar and Dina Bahrawy coming to help us tomorrow.  It would be great if parent volunteers can be here by 1:15 to get the boots from downstairs and lined up in the hallway, while kids are still at library.  We should be able to begin to get ready at 1:45 and out the door to ski by 2:00, which will bring us close to bus time and then kids will be all dressed in winter clothing to go home after they warm up with their snacks.

"No School for Students" is coming up

Notices

Dear Families,

I just wanted to remind you that there is no school on Monday, Jan. 17 due to Martin Luther King, Jr holiday.   Also, we will have library on Tuesday afternoon this coming week (Jan. 18), rather than Wednesday afternoon since we have two storytellers coming to Moretown School on Wednesday—Tim Jennings and LeeAnn Pollendar (sp?).

Please remind your child to bring back his/her library books on Tuesday morning (and it’s a physical education day with Mr. Drake, so we will all need our sneakers upon returning on Tuesday also).

There has been a lunch menu change for Tuesday, Jan. 18.  The hot lunch choices will be Grilled Cheese or Grilled Ham and Cheese (both made with Red Hen bread) or peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

I’m waiting to hear from Mrs. Allison about Wednesday’s schedule with the storytellers before I can let you know if we will be able to cross-country ski that day or not.  I am hoping we will be able to, since the snow is fabulous, and I want to get the children outside enjoying this movement opportunity.   I hope we won’t have to wait until Wed, Jan. 26 to begin cross-country skiing, but that may be the case, since we have a schedule of which classrooms use the equipment each day, and we are dependent on having parent volunteers being able to join us when they are able to tweak their work schedules.  I’ll let you know as soon as I know.

Thanks, and enjoy the weekend~

Brenda
